Queens Construction Worker Dies in Elevator Accident

On Thursday, June 5, a construction site worker was killed after falling from an elevator on the 5th floor of a building under construction in Queens. The worker who was working on the elevator plunged down the elevator shaft to the ground floor. The worker was wearing a safety harness, “but it was not connected to a lifeline”, authorities said. Another worker also plunged down the elevator shaft from the 2nd floor but survived and his condition is stable, said authorities.

Construction sites are very dangerous places to work and there is a high risk of injury. Construction site work involves potential hazards such as working at heights and dealing with heavy machinery where equipment may fail and lead to dangerous accidents. Though the percentage of risk is high in construction sites, accidents in these sites are preventable by strictly implementing safety measures. The construction owner who employs you is responsible for properly implementing all safety factors. They must provide sufficient training about how to handle dangerous equipment and how to react in a case of emergency. The employers must also provide safety gear to the employees.

If the safety is neglected by the employer, he can be held liable for violating the rules set by the government for the safety of construction workers. Therefore, you are eligible to seek compensation for the injuries sustained because of  the negligent acts of the employer. A construction accident attorney can help you file a lawsuit against the responsible party if you are injured on a construction site. A construction accident lawyer  is a person you need on your side.
